The Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), which is an annual event that holds globally every November, commences with an entrepreneurship walk in Uvwie, Delta State.

The activities of the Global Entrepreneurship Week 2023 continue with a busy schedule in the coming days. The theme for 2023 is ‘Entrepreneurs Thrive Here’.

Entrepreneurs in Uvwie converged on Refinery Road by the Gate of the Warri City Mall at 7am Wednesday and walked down the Warri/Sapele Road to Jubilee Conference Center at Okorodudu, all in Uvwie Local Government Area.

Mr. Oghenerume Daniels, one of the coordinators, who spoke on Tuesday with journalists, stated that the Global Entrepreneurship Week officially begins on Monday, 13th to Sunday 19th, November 2023, and that there are events designed for the entire week that include Entrepreneurship Awareness Outreach to secondary school students in Uvwie, Women Enterprise Workshop, Business Linkage Session, and an Enterprise Summit.

He said the purpose of the entrepreneurship week is to encourage potential entrepreneurs, especially young people to start their own businesses.

The Global Entrepreneurship Network seeks to highlight the positive impact that entrepreneurs can have, particularly in terms of innovation and sustainable development.

“This event is being observed simultaneously all over the country and around the world. It is a global event to celebrate the spirit of enterprise and to recognize the important role that entrepreneurs play in driving innovation, job creation and fostering economic growth,” he said.

Mr. Victory Ighelogbo, a participant stated that Nigeria and the world at large recognizes and hold entrepreneurs in high esteem, knowing the important role they play in nation building.

He said we must do more as a nation to drive the development of the entrepreneurship culture.

“I will always encourage the youth around me to be entrepreneurs and not just wait for jobs that are not readily available. They must become their own boss, creating jobs for others while also contributing to the betterment of our society.

“Joining the entrepreneurship walk today is a boost for me, seeing other entrepreneurs matching forward with one spirit and voice despite the challenges we face. This is encouraging to me,” he said.
