President Bola Tinubu has forwarded a request to the Senate for the screening and confirmation of 10 newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs). This development was disclosed during a plenary session on Tuesday, with the letter from President Tinubu being read by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

In the letter, President Bola Tinubu urged the Senate to expedite the consideration of the confirmation request, highlighting the importance of a prompt process.

Following the request, the Senate, therefore, resolved to conduct the screening and confirmation of the 10 nominees at the committee of the whole. This process is expected to take place later this week, specifically on Wednesday or Thursday.

The names of the newly appointed RECs include:
Mr. Etekamba Umoren (Akwa Ibom), Mr. Isah Shaka Ehimeakne (Edo), Mr. Oluwatoyin Babalola (Ekiti), Mr. Abubakar Ahmed Ma’aji (Gombe), Mr. Shehu Wahab (Kwara) and Prof. Mohammed Yelwa (Niger).

Others are Mr. Anugbum Onuoha (Rivers), Mr. Isma’ila Kaura Moyi (Zamfara), Mrs. Bunmi Omoseyindemi (Lagos) and Mr. Aminu Kasimu Idris (Nasarawa)
