Over 250 senior citizens in Edo State are beaming with joy as they have become beneficiaries of N100,000 each, in addition to other largesse, through an initiative of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

The beneficiaries, ranging between 65 and 95 years, drawn from across the three senatorial districts of Edo State, not only received cash empowerment but also underwent comprehensive medical check-ups, including eye examinations culminating a health talk on how to stay healthy.

Representing Senator Oluremi Tinubu at the event, the Wife of the Edo State Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Betsy Obaseki, personally presented the cash to the beneficiaries in the three venues chosen to meet with the senior citizens: Benin City, Irrua, and Auchi.

The Edo State First Lady acknowledged the initiative’s impact, transcending political affiliations and directly addressing the pressing needs of the people.

“We want to thank Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for reaching out to our people here,” Mrs. Obaseki said, emphasizing the significance of the initiative in bridging the gap for the often-forgotten elderly.

She revealed that each beneficiary would receive, alongside the N100,000, a bag of rice and a combo pack, her personal contribution in support of Nigeria’s First Lady’s initiative.

The beneficiaries, filled with gratitude at each venue, offered prayers for the President, his wife, and the country at large.

Some of them who spoke to newsmen at the event appreciated Nigeria’s First Lady for the gesture.

“I am very surprised at this gesture, to be remembered like this. I did not expect it honestly; she has made our Christmas celebration possible. May God Bless her richly,” Mrs. Evelyn Abiodun, one of the beneficiaries, said.

Mr. Ojo Ohiogbouan, another beneficiary, said, “My family and I are very grateful to the First Lady of Nigeria. She remembered us when it was very dire. May God give her the wisdom to rule this country better.”
