Determined to ensure strict compliance with Edo State Sports Commission’s security protocol and orderliness during football matches at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium at all times, the newly elected Edo Football Association (FA) Board has appointed Captain Stephens Amadin (Rted) as Chairman of Edo FA Security Committee.
John Adun, a retired Mobile Police officer will serve as the vice chairman of the security committee, along with the existing Sports Commission’s security group.
The Chairman of the Edo FA Board Mr. Fred Newton Erhunmwunsee announced the appointment on Friday, December 1, 2023, during their Executive Board meeting at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.
The EFA Chairman urged the security committee to synergize with the Edo Sports Commission security network in the maintenance of peace and order at the stadium, particularly on match days.
According to Fred, “The two retired army and police officers are experienced men we can rely on to do the job of security maintenance for us.
“We want to put stadium security on our top priority list. We must avoid any act or behaviour capable of dragging the game of football into disrepute.
“The men in charge of stadium security have been doing well but we need some innovation. We need to beef up the security architecture to ensure that both the conventional police drafted to support them during matches here are always on ground to do the needful.
“We want to know who to hold responsible in case of any noticed lapses. The chairman of the Edo Sports Commission Yusuf Alli drew our attention to an unpleasant incident that was reported to him after Insurance, Kwara Utd game and we don’t want a repeat of it. Both home and away teams with their officials as well as match officials must be protected till they leave the stadium premises. No excuse at all.”
Accepting the post, the chairman of the EFA Security Committee, Captain Stephen Amadin, thanked the FA Chairman and Board for the confidence reposed in him and his vice. He promised to do his best with his members to ensure peace and order at the stadium.
“We will always do our best. In carrying out our duties, we need the cooperation of everybody. Security is everybody’s business.” He said.
