The Chairman of Edo State Football Association, Fred Newton Erhunmwunse, has condoled with management and players of Sunshine Stars of Akure on the demise of their assistant kit manager, Taiwo Dosunmu.

The Edo FA boss who said he was saddened when he received the sad news of Taiwo Dosunmu’s passing, described the incident that led to the untimely death of the promising young man as unfortunate,

“This is sad and very unfortunate, I was always around to check on him at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) since the day the incident happened, and doctors there were up and doing, giving their best.

“I was hopeful things will get better, but God knows best. My condolences to the family of the late Taiwo Dosunmu, management and players of Sunshine Stars and Ondo State Football Association. May God rest his soul,” Newton Erhunmwunse stated.

The Edo FA Chairman who described the late Taiwo Dosunmu as hard working and dedicated staff of the Akure side, however praised the efforts of the doctors at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, as well as the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Darlington Obaseki for their prompt response. He called on security outfits in the country to beef up security checks and operations on Nigeria highways to help fight these armed bandits.

Taiwo Dosunmu died on Friday, December 22nd, 2023 at the intensive care unit of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital in Benin City after series of surgeries, following the gun shot injury he suffered when armed bandits attacked Sunshine Stars along Benin-Ore highway on Thursday December 7, 2023, when sunshine Stars FC were on their way to Benin City to honour NPFL Matchday 13 encounter against Bendel Insurance FC of Benin City.

It would be recalled that Edo State Government was supportive during the period of the unfortunate incident by offering to pay the medical bills and also gave the team a security excort as they returned to Akure after the match.
