In ensuring the well-being of Edo residents, the State Government has demonstrated its commitment to continue to work with key stakeholders, groups and individuals to achieve the objective of making essential healthcare services accessible to all irrespective of status

Following, in a groundbreaking collaboration, the Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (EDSPHCDA) partnered with the Medical and Dental Consultant Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) Edo State Chapter, the Edo State Ministry of Health, and the World Health Organization to orchestrate a Free Medical Outreach held at the Edaiken Primary Healthcare Centre in Uselu, Benin City, Egor Local Government Area on Thursday, 30th November 2023.

The event witnessed a remarkable turnout of beneficiaries from various locations across Egor Local Government Area. Hundreds received free testing, free treatment, free counseling, and free medications for a diverse range of health concerns.

Addressing the beneficiaries, the Executive Secretary, EDSPHCDA, Dr. Omosigho Izedonmwen ably represented by the Director of Community and Family Health Services, EDSPHCDA Dr. Idemudia Osayomore thanked the beneficiaries for turning up to take advantage of the exercise as he encouraged them to always place their health as a top priority.

Speaking during an interview, Dr. Ehigha Enabudoso, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee for the Biannual General Meeting (BGM) and Scientific Conference, UBTH emphasized the significance of free medical outreach as a means of giving back to the community.

“This initiative is aimed to encourage community members to utilize primary healthcare centers, promote health education, and offer vital diagnosis, as well as provide free treatment of ailments for Edo residents,” Dr. Ehigha.

The Head of the Outreach Sub-Committee of the Local Organizing Committee for the Biannual General Meeting (BGM) and Scientific Conference, UBTH Dr. Mercy Okoh spoke on the group’s commitment to promoting community health and their determination to make essential healthcare services accessible to all irrespective of status. She urged Edo residents to prioritize their health by undergoing regular health checks, emphasizing the significance of staying proactive for overall well-being.

Honorable Kelvin Ighodaro, the Counsellor representing Ward 8 in Egor LGA, expressed his enthusiasm for the free medical outreach as an opportunity to give back to the Egor people. He emphasized the importance of assisting the less privileged who might otherwise lack access to such essential medical services.

To streamline the process and show special consideration for the elderly, the EDSPHCDA & MDCAN provided special preferences to reduce waiting times.

Before and during the outreach, the Medical Officer of Health, Egor LGA Dr Okpamen John and the EDSPHCDA’s Health Education Unit, led by Mrs. Irene Uabor, worked tirelessly to spread awareness. Town announcers amplified the message, and health talks were conducted by EDSPHCDA Egor LGA Health Educator, Mr. Eghosa Omoregbe and other Nurses at the Edaiken Primary Healthcare Centre, Uselu.

A dedicated team of medical professionals ensured the seamless execution of the free medical outreach, offering services such as free eye tests, free dental checks, free scaling and polishing, free deworming, free blood sugar/blood pressure checks, and a spectrum of free diagnosis and treatments for various conditions as well as the distribution of free glasses to beneficiaries.
