…charges graduands on productivity

The Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, has conferred honorary fellowship awards on Archbishop John Osa Oni of Vineyard Christian Ministries and the Managing Director, Rubber Estates Nigeria Limited, Mr. Olivier Oduokou, for their contribution to the development of the society.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Sylvester Omoruyi, presented the award to the recipients during the Polytechnic’s 5th Convocation Ceremony for the award of National Diploma and Higher National Diploma to the graduands of 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 academic sessions.

Recounting government’s strides in education reforms in the State, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe represented Mr Osemwekha John Owenyeke of the State’s Department of Planning, Ministry of Education, noted that the Governor Obaseki-led administration has initiated policies that have positioned tertiary institutions in Edo State for global recognition.

He applauded the polytechnic for upholding excellence, especially in the aspects of ensuring programmes’ accreditation as well as collaboration with international and local partners.

The Rector, Engr. Omoruyi expressed appreciation to Governor Godwin Obaseki for his continuous support in ensuring that the Polytechnic is outstanding among other higher institutions in Nigeria.

He also charged the graduands to apply themselves and be innovative so as to boost productivity within the State and across the country in the light of the prevailing economic challenges faced in the country.

He said the Polytechnic has secured accreditation for more than ten programmes from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and more programmes are gearing for Resource Visitation by the Board very soon.

Omoruyi also revealed that the polytechnic has gained more edge in international collaborations under his watch, noting that the Polytechnic has sealed a partnership deal with the Shaaxni Polytechnic, China to strengthen TVET in Edo State Polytechnic.

He said, “This collaboration focuses on fostering an exchange of expertise and academic resources between Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute and Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, aiming to improve technical education.

“The agreement was finalized during a recent visit by Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, accompanied by the Commissioner of Education, Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe, and the Rector of Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, Engr. Sylvester Omoruyi, to China for the 10th Anniversary of the Belt and Road Global Chambers of Commerce and Associations Conference.”
