The fourth Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba, is dead. He died in Abuja at the age of 65 years.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the news was disclosed by an aide to Na’abba, Ahmed Lawal, in a telephone interview on Wednesday in Kano.

NAN quoted Lawal as saying the former speaker died in the early hours of Wednesday at the National Hospital, Abuja.

Na’Abba was elected as a member of the House of Representatives in April 1999 on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform to represent Kano Municipal Federal Constituency of Kano State.

He emerged Speaker of the House of Representatives in July 1999 after the controversy that led to the removal of Salisu Buhari and was in office until 3 June 2003.

Na’abba left behind one wife, 10 children and three grandchildren.

”We are currently making arrangements to transport the corpse to Kano for burial today,” Lawal told NAN.
