In pursuit of the spirit of unity and empowerment that Dr. Asue Ighodalo strives to instill among the Edo youths, Truth Live Media Communications Ltd. (TLMC) in conjunction with Edo State Government unveils the maiden edition of the Dr. Asue Ighodalo Unity Gold Cup.

The Dr. Asue Ighodalo (AI) Unity Cup stands as a symbol of togetherness, peace and inclusivity, bringing together youth teams from the vibrant corners of Edo State – Team Edo South, Team Edo Central and Team Edo North.

In his inaugural speech during the unveiling ceremony and press conference of the AI Unity Cup football tournament on Friday, December 8, 2023, at the Media Center, Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, the C.E.O. Truth Live Media Communications Ltd., Deacon Darlington Okpebholo Ray, said, “I am delighted to announce that Truth Live News, in collaboration with the Asue Ighodalo Support Groups both in the diaspora and across the 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Edo State and are joining hands to make this soccer fiesta a reality.

“The unwavering support of Dr. Ighodalo himself for this championship reflects a shared dedication to the well-being and progress of the youths of Edo State.”

Deacon Darlington, who was represented at the ceremony by Engr. Toba Owojaiye, Corporate Affairs Manager, TLMC, further expressed, “Through the power of football, we aim to bridge gaps, foster understanding and promote harmony among our young citizens, transcending political boundaries.

“For us at Truth Media Communications, Publishers of Truth Live News, we share in Dr. Asue Ighodalo’s vision for Edo State which encompasses a commitment to youth engagement and empowerment.”

According to Deacon Darlington, “This tournament serves as a proactive step towards realising that vision, emphasizing the values of peace and unity that are crucial for the development of our State.

The 2-day round-robin football tournament holds from December 20th to December 22nd, 2023, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.

The tourney will witness four teams battle for the coveted Gold Cup, with the winning team claiming the trophy and a commendable prize of N250,000, while the second and third placed teams receive N150,000 and N100,000 respectively.

“In the spirit of unity, for the good and glory of Edo State, let us come together to celebrate not only the prowess on the football field but the collective strength and unity of our youth.

“In the mind of Dr. Asue Ighodalo, also known as AI by his numerous supporters, this tournament is more than a sporting event; it is a platform for nurturing future leaders and fostering a sense of community that will resonate for years to come,” Darlington added.
