Following the issuance of the Federal Government’s circular HSCF/SPSO/268/T3/2/37 on July 27, 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced its adherence to a directive impacting senior officials within its ranks.

Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner & Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, disclosed that INEC will enact the government’s directive, requiring directors with eight or more years of service to retire from the public sector.

Consequently, four directors within the commission are slated to begin their terminal leave. Among them, two serve as heads of departments at the national headquarters, while the other two hold positions as administrative secretaries in state offices.

However, an exception has been granted to clinical officers within the medical cadre, exempting them from this retirement policy as per Circular MH. 7205/T/31 dated September 7, 2023.

Expressing goodwill, Olumekun conveyed the commission’s best wishes to the affected directors as they conclude their service and retire from their roles within the commission.
