CAF has put to rest the uncertainties surrounding Super Eagles 2023 Africa Cup of Nations provisional (AFCON) list.

Few days ago, the media was flooded with a 41-man list of the Super Eagles for the continental championship, though, it was unconfirmed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

However on Wednesday, December 20th, the African football governing body made a confirmation of the provisional squads of the 24 competing teams.

Although, football fans in Nigeria have reacted to the list with mixed feelings, with some aruging about the inclusion of underperforming players.

While others have bemoaned coach Jose Peseiro for leaving out players who are hitting the ground running for their respective clubs in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

On the home front, eyebrows were raised after NPFL top scorers Sikiru Alimi of Remo Stars and Robert Mizo from Bayelsa United were overlooked.

The list, however, continue to generate controversies since its release, though, fans are hopeful of a great show of the Nigerian team, especially with the attacking powers of the Super Eagles.

According to CAF, a final squad between 24 to 27 players will be submitted by each football federation, only 23 will be available for selection for each match day of the tournament.

Deadline for the submission of the final squads of the participating national teams is January 3rd, ten days before the showpiece serves off.

The tourney will hold from January 13th to February 11th, 2024 and the host cities are Abidjan, Bouake, Korgoho, San Pedro and Yamoussoukro.
