The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) and Dominion All Stars have progressed to the quarter-finals of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital Chief Medical Director’s Inter-Professional Tournament.

The ongoing 7th edition of the Inter-Professional Football Championship being held at the main field of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), kicked off December 9th, 2023, and will run through January 1st, 2024.
The UBTH’s CMD, Professor Darlington Obaseki led the NMA into the knockout stages on Tuesday, December 19, following a gallant 2-0 victory over late entrants, Physiotherapy.

Likewise, dominant Dominion All-Stars grabbed the second qualification place by conquering Coaches 4-3 in a viciously contested encounter on Wednesday evening.

Following the outcomes from the matches, NMA and Dominion have advanced into the knockout stages as the top two qualifiers from Group C.

Regrettably, Physiotherapists and Coaches, closed at third and fourth place, respectively, have been eliminated from the CMD Cup.

Notably, Dominion and Coaches finished leveled on the same point (6), goal scored (7) and goal conceded (6) with a goal difference of (+1).

Recall that Season 7 of the UBTH CMD’s Inter Professional Cup made its grand return on December 9th, 2023 with 16 professional bodies competing for glory within a time frame of 23 days.

The 16 participating teams were grouped into four groups consisting of four teams.

Embracing a round-robin format, the tournament provides each team with a fair chance to compete for glory. The top two performers from each group will secure their passage into the knockout stages.

UBTH CMD Inter-Professional Cup Tournament is an initiative of UBTH’s Chief Medical Director, Professor Darlington Obaseki, to ensure recreation through sports for the professional bodies within Edo State.

The competition final will be held on January 1, 2024.
