… as female para wheelchair tennis players, Andry Usoh, Chinaza Egbagu progressed to semifinals

While declaring the 2nd National Para Games, Abuja 2023 open on Friday, the Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, encouraged and motivated all athletes from different states of the Federation to be at their best performance during the competition events.

In his opening ceremony speech, Senator John Owan Enoh expressed his excitement for the 2nd edition of the National Para Games, Abuja 2023. He highlighted the importance of inclusivity and equal opportunities in sports for persons with disabilities.

Senator Enoh emphasized that the government will continue to commit to supporting para-athletes and help in discovering and unearthing new talents to represent the country with pride in the world of para-sports soon. He encouraged all participants to showcase their skills, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the games.

Notably, the Edo State contingents stood out in their red tracksuits, proudly representing the Heartbeat of the Nation.

The ceremony was filled with excitement and anticipation as para-athletes from across the country gathered to showcase their incredible skills.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, 10th December, the National Para Wheelchair Tennis Female Singles Category was held. It was an intense match between Chike Enwerem from Oyo and Andry Usoh from Edo. It was a thrilling battle that went down to the wire.

In the first set, Andry Usoh showed great skill, winning with a score of 7-6. But Chike Enwerem fought hard and managed to take the second set with a score of 5-2.

With the match tied, it all came to the super tiebreaker. Andry Usoh and Chike Enwerem gave their all, however, Andry Usoh emerged victorious, winning the super tiebreaker with a score of 10-8.

Alongside was Chinaza Egbagu From Edo, who defeated her opponent Asiha from Kano 3 – 2.

Both matches showcased the talent and resilience of the players. With the wins, Edo female players, Andry Usoh and Chinaza Egbagu have qualified for the semi-final.
