Former Nigeria international, Austin Eguavoen has called on football loving Nigerians to throw their support behind Super Eagles as the Africa Cup of Nations approaches.

Nigeria and 23 other nations are set to battle for the prestigious African trophy in Côte d’Ivoire, in what looks to be one of the most competitive AFCON finals.

Eguavoen, an erstwhile coach of the Super Eagles, has urged fans to rally round the national side as they push for another continental title after their last success in 2013.

The Technical Director for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in his New Year Day’s message on Instagram, made a passionate plea for Eagles as they embark on the national assignment.

“Happy New Year, everyone & especially to my Nigerian family; as we embark on yet another AFCON, let’s give the Super Eagles of Nigeria all the support they need to triumph! As the saying goes, Naija no dey kari last,” Eguavoen noted.

Meanwhile, coach Jose Peseiro has named a 25-man squad comprising three goalkeepers, nine defenders, five midfielders and eight strikers for competition.

The team will hold it’s training camp in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates in preparation for the biennial African showpiece that holds the continent spellbound between January 13th to February 11th in Côte d’Ivoire.
