Chairman, Ogwashi-Uku Political Leaders and Elders Forum and Chairman/CEO, AC Okocha Motors, Chief A. C. Okocha, has called on the state government to appeal to the Federal Government to complete the Ogwashi-Uku Dam Project.

Chief Okocha, while speaking on the delay in the execution of the project, said the importance of the Dam project when completed could not be over emphasized as it would provide potable water and supply light to Ogwashi-Uku and the neighbouring communities.

The community leader noted that Ogwashi-Uku, an agrarian community in Aniocha South lacked potable water supply and its electricity power supply had been epileptic in spite of its contributions to the development of the state and country at large.

The business mogul added the water level of the community was about 800 feet deep and all efforts by various agencies to provide boreholes had proved abortive.

He said it was surprising that the strategic project, which was awarded in 2006, had suffered set backs, even with a very distinguished personality as Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who is currently the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation and one-time Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Finance Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and notable personalities as indigenes of the community.

Chief Okocha, therefore, urged the state government to urgently address the challenges of Ogwashi Uku community by ensuring the completion of the Dam project for the good of the community and the environs, the state and the country, as water and electricity were essential for human survival.

He commended the Oborevwori administration for its impactful projects in the state since inception, noting that ensuring the completion of this Dam project would be another milestone for the state government.

The Ogwashi-Uku Political Leaders and Elders Forum Chairman recalled that in 2018, during a press briefing, the then Commissioner for Water Resources Development, Chief Fidelis Tilije, said the state government would ensure the completion of the Dam project, but noted that six years down the line,no remarkable progress had been made on the project.
