Oil marketing majors including 11 Plc, Conoil Plc, Ardova Plc, MRS Oil Nigeria Plc, OVH Energy Marketing Limited, Total Nigeria Plc, and NNPC Retail have been approved among the companies to sell refined petroleum products, in particular fuel produced by the $20 billion Dangote Refinery, as the facility gets ready to kick-start production of diesel and aviation fuel.

As part of the development arising from the Dangote Refinery’s readiness to address Nigeria’s long-standing problem with the importation of refined crude products, members of the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) have expressed readiness to kickstart distribution once commercial terms are finalised.

The Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) has registered with the newly constructed multi-billion-dollar Dangote Petroleum Refinery and received approval for the group to purchase and distribute the petroleum products produced by the refinery.

The Special Assistant to the president on social media, Dada Olusegun, disclosed this information in a statement on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, where he said that after the commercial terms are finalised, the seven main oil marketers who make up MOMAN will start fuel distribution, he added, and the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) will speak to the refinery about loading arrangements.

Olusegun’s statement read, “MOMAN’s registered members, including 11 Plc, Conoil Plc, Ardova Plc, MRS Oil Nigeria Plc, OVH Energy Marketing Limited, Total Nigeria Plc, and NNPC Retail, are poised to purchase and distribute products from the refinery, which can load 2,900 trucks daily and adheres to Euro V specifications.

“Dangote’s refinery design adheres to standards set by the World Bank, US EPA, European emission norms, and Department of Petroleum Resources emission/effluent norms, utilizing advanced technology.”

In the statement, Olusegun also noted that the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has constantly been engaging the Dangote Refinery management over the supply of products from the facility.

Over the weekend, the refinery’s management assured Nigerians that its refined products, starting with diesel and aviation fuel, will hit the market in January 2024, after the refinery reportedly started production on Friday after having received six million barrels of crude oil from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, thanked President Tinubu for his support, encouragement, and thoughtful advice towards the actualisation of the project.

Dangote also thanked the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and Nigerians for their support and belief in the historic project.

Dangote said, “We thank President Tinubu for his support and for making our dream come true. This production, as witnessed today, would not have been possible without his visionary leadership and prompt attention to detail. His intervention at various stages cleared all impediments, thereby accelerating the actualisation of the project.

“We also thank the NNPCL, NUPRC and NMDPRA for their support. These organisations have been our dependable partners in this historic journey. We also thank Nigerians for their belief and support in this project.”

Dangote then said, “We have started the production of diesel and aviation fuel, and the products will be in the market before the end of the month. This is a big day for Nigeria. We are delighted to have reached this significant milestone. This is an important achievement for our country as it demonstrates our ability to develop and deliver large capital projects. This is a game changer for our country, and I am very fulfilled with the actualisation of this project.”
