In a bid to ease the burden, as well as with a commitment to ensuring the well-being of esteemed senior citizens in the state, the Edo Health Insurance Scheme (EDOHIS) officially commenced the free health insurance enrollment and data validation of state pensioners across the three senatorial districts of the state.

This is in fulfillment of the declaration by the Edo State Government in December 2023, in providing N1bn to cover the free health insurance service for pensioners and vigilantes of Edo State, while ensuring affordable and quality healthcare services in mitigating the out-of-pocket spending of the beneficiaries of the free health insurance scheme, thereby promoting a healthier and more secured future.

This initiative ensures comprehensive health coverage for both State and Local Government Pensioners.

The exercise is scheduled to run from Monday, January 15th through to Friday, January 19th, 2024, across the three senatorial districts of the state.

According to officials of the EDOHIS, the exercise which commenced on Monday at Victor Uwaifo Hub, Benin City, is scheduled to attend to only the state pensioners as the exercise for the local government pensioners will be announced on a later date.
