Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Mr. Christopher Nehikhare has called on the people of Edo State to support Miss Angel Patience Osariemen in her attempt to break the Guinness World Record of 200 hours read-a-thon.

The Commissioner, who made this call during a press briefing on Tuesday, with the Angel Riemen’s team at the Ministry’s premises in Benin City, expressed pride at her audacity and the resilient spirit of the Edo people, promising that the state government will do everything in its power to support her, especially in the area of stable power supply.

Mr. Nehikhare stated that the 200 hours reading marathon would not be an easy attempt but with the support of the state government, her success was guaranteed. He noted that, the read-a-thon materials will contain a large percentage of the Edo historical background and also some percentage of the history of Nigeria and its aesthetic traditions and culture.

According to the Commissioner, the 200 hours read-a-thon will commence on February 23 to March 3, 2024, at the Library Complex of the Edo State Secretariat Building.

Earlier, Miss Osariemen explained that her aim was to promote the arts and culture of Edo people and Nigeria at large, calling on the younger generation to embrace the habit of reading in an era dominated by technology and digital distraction.

Miss Angel Patience Osariemen, a Diploma graduate of Maritime Engineering from the University of Benin and also a 500 level student of Fishery Department at the Lagos State University, hails from Owan-West Local Government Area of Edo State.

Present at the briefing were the Permanent Secretary, Communication and Orientation, Dr. Desmond Agbama, Director of Communication, Mr. Daniel Odion, the Media Team from the Government House and the Angel Riemen’s Team.
