In commemoration of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Egor Local Government has joined the state in remembrance of the servicemen of the Nigerian Armed Forces and to honour veterans of World War I and II as well as the Nigerian Civil War.

The celebration, which held at the local government secretariat on January 15, 2024, featured dignitaries across the 10 wards of the local government and top government functionaries.

In an opening speech, Chairman of Egor Local Government Area, Hon. Eghe Ogbemudia notes that honouring those brave warriors today is as a result of their collective sacrifice to fight for the preservation of our territorial integrity against foreign and domestic enemies, which takes precedence over their interest.

According to the Chairman, the fallen heroes have paid the supreme sacrifices collectively, and deserved to be honoured and celebrated.

While speaking on the progress made so far in her second term in office, the Chairman said in her 100 days in office, her administration has commenced the rehabilitation of the local government secretariat building to create a working environment conducive for staff and functionaries, saying that her administration has also revamped the Lollipop Programme to ease the crossing of school children within the local government.

She further said other areas of progress include the “Operation Cleanup Egor” programme, which involves the desilting of drainage system to avoid flooding, stressing that the council had currently embarked on the grading of earth roads across the 10 wards of the local government.

Hon. Ogbemudia thereafter called on Egor residents to support her government in making Egor Local Government a mini-state.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Egor chapter, Rev/Col. Nicholas Uselu, expressed his gratitude to the ex-servicemen who paid the supreme sacrifices for Nigeria during the world wars and civil war.

Other dignitaries present include the Nigeria Civil Defence officers, Nigeria Immigration officers, the Police Force, and the Nigeria Legion, among others.

The climax of the event was the launching of the emblem and the match pass presentation by NYSC members, civil defence, and ex-servicemen.
