Edo State branch of the Nigerian Red Cross Society has commended Godwin Obaseki, Governor of Edo State for giving support to humanitarian activities in the state and urged for more collaboration in 2024.

The commendation was made by Pastor Monday Edogiawerie, chairman, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Edo State branch who led some executive members of the society on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Hon Zubairu Dada Abubakar in Benin City.

According to Pastor Edogiawerie, the Nigerian Red Cross Society has been very lucky with humanitarian support from the Edo State Government which has assisted in several interventions carried out in different parts of the state.

“We need more of such collaborations to forge ahead in the new year. That is why we have come on this visit. We also want to express our appreciation for the short notice which you have accepted to receive us. You did not follow protocol and this shows that you are fit for the job because humanitarian work can be done anytime of the day,” he noted.

The Commissioner for Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Hon Zubairu Dada Abubakar assured the Nigerian Red Cross Society of government’s readiness to collaborate and always interface for more areas of intervention.

“The government understands the role of the Nigerian Red Cross and it does not joke with humanitarian matters as well as the security of the state to ensure there is peace in the state. In the entire country, there are only three states with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Edo State is one of them. We are going to look at what we are going to do together this year.

“The governor desires to finish strong and to have continuity of the good works going on in the state, that is why you all have a role to play to ensure that a worthy successor takes over to assist the governor finish well,” the commissioner noted.

The chairman, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Edo State branch was accompanied by Wilson Ekhomogiazin, the branch secretary and Ndukwu Christian, the disaster officer during the visit which was also attended by the Director of Humanitarian, Ministry of Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Mr. Ezekiel.
