The African Cup of Nations is edging closer, as a number of Premier League clubs will be without some of their key players throughout the first month of January 2024.

Several teams will be impacted by the mid-season tournament and Arsenal are expected to be without three of their players, Football London reports.

Ivory Coast will stage the 34th edition of African Cup of Nations (AFCON), scheduled to begin on January 13, 2024 and conclude on February 11, 2024.

Just like AFCON, the Asian Cup is also taking place in the first month of 2024 in Qatar, with the final being held on Saturday, February 10. Heading into the new year, a number of clubs have announced their squads for the tournaments.

Arsenal already know they will be without Mohamed Elneny. The midfielder has been named in the Egypt squad for the tournament, linking-up with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in a bid to win their first title since 2010.

The deadline for the remaining teams to name their final 27-man squads is January 3. Ghana are one of the teams yet to name their roster, although it’s expected that Thomas Partey will be named by Chris Hughton.

Partey underwent a ‘procedure’ in November which has kept him out for the remainder of the year, but Mikel Arteta recently provided an update on the 30-year-old’s recovery, hinting that he may feature in the FA Cup clash with Liverpool this weekend.
