Leicester City coach Enzo Maresca have disclosed that Wilfred Ndidi will be sidelined for three months owing to a muscle injury.

Ndidi picked up the injury in the awake of Leicester’s defeat of Cardiff City in the Championship late last year and it saw him missed the club’s win over Huddersfield on New Year’s Day.

According to Maresca the Nigerian is expected to face a long period of absence that could see him miss 15 of the Foxes’ remaining 20 league matches in their bid to gain promotion to the Premier League.

The 27-year-old midfielder has found form this season scoring four times, with a further six assists for Leicester, unfortunately his brilliant performances has been dampened by the injury.

“Probably for Wilf, it will be a long time,” Maresca said per Leicester City’s website.

“It could be three months. It looks like a muscular problem, but an important one, so we will see in the next hours but the situation for Wilf is probably the clearest one,” he added.

The injury is a major setback for him as he will play no part in Nigeria’s Super Eagles’ quest for a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title when the event kicks off in Côte d’Ivoire on January 13th.

He has since been replaced with Royals Antwerp of Belgium midfielder, Alhassan Yusuf, as coach Jose Peseiro tinker his squad for the continental championship.

In the same vein, Maresca gave an update about Iheanacho who is nursing an injury complaint that has kept him on the sidelines, too.

The ex-Manchester City man is not expected to be back in action soon, though, he is getting back, but he will miss Saturday’s FA Cup Third Round tie at Millwall.

“The only thing I can say it that Kel is still injured. It’s getting better but it’s still not 100 percent otherwise he would be in the squad for tomorrow and he’s not in the squad,” Maresca stressed.
