Nigerian boxer, Suleiman Jafaru, suffered his first career defeat in devastating manner when he was knocked out in the second round by France’s Milan Prat on Sunday

In one of the undercards of the Prestige Fight Night at the Casino de Deauville in Calvados, France, Jafaru was sent sprawling on the canvas by Prat amid cheers from the French crowd who were firmly behind their compatriot.

Prat, a former European Boxing Union champion, claimed the AXIDS super-welterweight title in an easy second round after Jafaru came out as the more aggressive boxer in the first but seemed to have lost his steam early on into the second round.

With a lot of time still left on the clock, the Nigerian, who was on the attack and in Prat’s corner, ran into a punch on the jaw and fell instantly, with the match ending in a TKO win for the Frenchman.

It was a battle of knockout specialists and it ended just as predicted that one of the boxers would end up on the mat. Jafaru had the upper hand in the first round but it wasn’t enough to avoid a loss in hostile territory.

The 29-year-old Nigerian now holds a record of 15 victories, 12 of them coming by way of knockouts and one loss, while Prat, who has only lost one fight, has now claimed 17 of his 22 victories through knockouts.

This was Jafaru’s first fight outside Nigeria and he will be keen to get back to winning ways whether at home or abroad.
