…new fee takes effect Feb. 1

Nigerians intending to take the English Language Testing System (IELTS) examinations organised by the British Council will be required to pay a fee of N139,000 beginning from February 1, 2024.

This is as the British Council in Nigeria has raised the fees for the IELTS examinations for the second time in the past five months.

“We would like to inform you that there has been a review of our IELTS fees. The new price list of the IELTS range of tests offered by the British Council will be effective for registrations on or after 1 February 2024,” the British Council said in an official notice posted on its website.

It said applicants would thenceforth be required to pay N139,000 for both the Computer Academic and General Training Modules.

This is coming barely five months after the Council in September 2023 increased the fee from the region of N80,000-N90,000 to the current N107,500.

The British Council attributed the latest adjustment to the rising costs associated with conducting the examinations.

“This adjustment is expected to support the continuation of a diverse range of services and comprehensive support for individuals striving to achieve their language proficiency goals,” the British Council said.

The Council expressed gratitude to applicants and emphasised its commitment to providing valuable services.

IELTS is an English Language proficiency test developed and run by the British Council in partnership with IDP Education and Cambridge Assessment English. It is widely recognized globally as the world’s most popular English language proficiency test for higher education and global migration.
