Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has pleaded with the Otaru of Auchi, HRM Alhaji H. A. Momoh, Ikelebe III, to support him in producing his successor.

Gov. Obaseki made the plea at the 27th Edition of the Auchi Day Celebration of the Allah Most High held in Auchi, the aadministrative headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area.

The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Humanitarian Affairs, Dada Abubakar, also appealed to the royal father and the community to cooperate with him to finish well and strong.

“I implore you to support us to produce a worthy successor who will make Edo State the best in the country,” Obaseki said.

He said his administration had achieved a lot in Auchi and promised to do more for the community.

According to him, “As a government, we have achieved a lot for Auchi Sacred Kingdom with the Auchi Central Hospital upgraded to a specialist hospital; the erosion control and rehabilitation of Igbe road and the upgrading of Ikelebe sport arena to a mini stadium; construction of Bishop’s Court Road GRA; construction of Lassa fever isolation treatment and Auchi water facility reticulation water supply scheme.”

He further revealed that in the new year, there would be a lot more developments across the state, including Auchi Sacred Kingdom.

The governor commended the Otaru for his peaceful and accommodating disposition in discharging the affairs of his kingdom.

He lauded the traditional ruler for setting up sanitation committee in the community for effective cleanliness of the community and pledged a donation of N10million to support them.

Earlier, the Otaru of Auchi said this year’s celebration has thee theme “Tahara (Cleanliness): A Means of Attaining Piety” as well as launching of the N200 million sanitation equipment.

The Otaru said the fundraising was to acquire sanitation equipment to ensure effective waste management system in the community.

He said Auchi is fast becoming home for non-citizens but it does not discriminate against any human being created by God, adding that anybody that is in Auchi is a citizen of Auchi.

“Hence, Auchi is now a city centre and we cannot afford to fold our hands and leave the community in a mess. That is why sanitation committee was set up and the idea of raising money to buy sanitation equipment to see that Auchi and its environs are kept clean,” he said.

He implored corporate organisations, individuals, sons and daughters of the community to donate generously to achieve a clean environment.

Highpoint of the ceremony was the presentation of prizes to football winners played as part of this year’s celebration.
