Vice Chancellor of Edo State University Uzairue, Engr. Professor Emmanuel Aluyor, has advised the newly admitted students of the university to embrace the opportunities that await them and to make the most of the resources provided by the school.

Prof. Aluyor gave the advice during the orientation programme organized for the 9th set 2023/2024 of fresh students admitted into the university.

The VC, while congratulating the newly admitted students, said their presence signifies the continuation of legacy of academic brilliance and the pursuit of knowledge that is the hallmark of the university.

He said the knowledge they may acquired during their time at the university will empower them to be agents of positive change to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the nation at large.

“As you step into the vibrant academic community, I emplore you to leverage on the modern technical facilities at your disposal,” he said.

He stated further that the orientation is aimed at providing insight into the university’s system, offering guidance and valuable information from the seasoned speakers on various topics related to the university administration.

The university has created the Student Representative Council (SRC), which serves as a vital link between the student body and the university’s management, he said, adding that the collaborative effort is aimed at fostering a harmonious relationship where students are not merely recipients of education but active contributors to the university’s growth and development.

Prof Aluyor however assured the students that the university boasts a team of exceptional lecturers and academic staff committed to ensuring their academic success in the university, saying it is essential on their part to conduct themselves responsibly by avoiding actions that could hinder their studies or compromised their stay within the university.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Dean, Student Affairs, Prof. Mrs. Muniratu Maliki, welcoming the newly admitted students, said their journey towards academic excellence and personal growth have just begun, saying it is a joyous occasion to have them join the vibrant and diverse community.

The Dean said the orientation is meant at providing them with information that will make them achieve success in their academic career and personal goals.

She said the university aims to meet the dreams for quality tertiary education, seeks to reduce dependence on foreign institutions and other socioeconomic growth while its vision is to be a centre for excellence in teaching, research, innovation and community development.

According to her, the university has been providing access to world class education in serene environment with modern state-of-the-art facilities such as well equipped laboratories and libraries stocked with up-to-date physical and online researches.

She said successes in the university required hard work and dedication as it can get stressful and overwhelmed but most have a good strategy for academic success.

The Dean therefore advised them to always attend their classes and to do all assignments as well as form reading and study groups, as they set achievable goals and being focused on the path to achieving them.

She equally spoke on indecent dressing, social life, social vices, guidance and counselling services available, healthcare services, among others.

Other speakers at the orientation include the Commandant, NASEME, Major General Oladele Arogundade, whose topic was Purpose Driven Student.
