Nigeria’s female national basketball team, D’Tigress has move closer to the Olympic Games, scheduled to hold in Paris, France in the summer.

The Nigerian side secured a 72-65 points win over Senegal on Match Day 1 of the FIBA Olympic Games Qualifying Tournament in Antwerp, Belgium on Thursday.

The Rena Wakama tutored side took the first quarter by a two points margin 20-18 advantage but later fell asleep in the second quarter, trailing with 17-28 to go on break 46-37.

The cagy third quarter ended 12-11 in favour of the current African Champions but were still trailing the 11 time African Queens Senegal 57-48.

It was a one sided fourth and final quarter in favour of Nigeria with 23-8 score line.
At the start of the fourth quarter D’Tigress were leading 11-0, and later made it 12-1.

Final score stood at 72-65, 20-18, 17-28, 12-11 and 23-8.

Amy Okonkwo the star player of D’Tigress had a double double, 21 points, 10 rebounds and she capped it all with 3 assists and 1 blocked shot. They leaned on Okonkwo for inspiration and she delivered.

Nigeria will take on World Champions, USA on Friday in Match Day 2 while Senegal meet host Belgium.
