A Police officer, identified as Inspector Osang, attached to Akwa Ibom State Police command has been allegedly beheaded by unknown gunmen on Wednesday night.

Authoritative source revealed that Osang was said to have been beheaded when the gunmen stormed his apartment on a lane connecting Enen Afaha and Afaha Ube, a suburb of Uyo, the state capital.

It was gathered that the invasion of the police officer’s apartment occurred yesterday at about 8.30 pm, after he returned from the station where he was deployed.

An eyewitness residing inside the community also revealed that the gunmen gained entrance into the deceased’s compound and began firing randomly to scare away residents and passersby.

It will be recalled that the murder of the police officer was the third incident reported in the area within the month where a woman was also beheaded near the banking layout in Uyo, and another lady was slain on Sunday night, her dismembered body stuffed into a Ghana-Must-Go bag and abandoned by the roadside in the state’s Nwaniba district.

When contacted, state Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Mac-Don confirmed the event and termed it as unfortunate.

“We have received that information and it is an unfortunate situation. Already, the Commissioner of Police has ordered an investigation and we are committed to ridding the streets off criminal elements.

“We are not deterred by the incident but we are committed to ensuring that, criminally minded persons will account for their actions,” Macdon said.

Meanwhile, Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno has read riot acts to criminals in the state warning that no criminal should test the resolve of his administration on security matters.

Eno, made this known at a gala night for service commanders who have been transferred from the state, and the newly promoted Military Generals from Akwa Ibom state.

“If criminals believe that Akwa Ibom State is a place for them to hibernate, I am warning them to stay away. We have credible intelligence that there are those ones living among us. We will come after you and we will use every layer of our intelligence available to track you”, he added.
