In most parts of the Southern Nigeria Communities like the Ibibios in Akwa-Ibom, Efik in Calabar, generally the Ibo Communities of the Eastern part of Nigeria, Esan and most parts of Benin Kingdom, Orhionmwon and the riverine Ovia areas of Edo State. The Customs and tradition of their marriage, states that if you don’t pay dowry, the children from such marriages are never yours and can’t bear your name in anyway.
The Story have been reported about a young Nigerian Esan lady, Julie Cesar in her late thirties, from Uromi , Edo State of Nigeria, based in Antwerp, Belgium who has been threatened with Litigation.
The threat is as a result of illicit relationship Julie Cesar went into with a young Liberian national called Donzo layeealso in his mid-thirties, both residing in the same City, which all started since early last year.
According to our Correspondent, a family member of Julie, simply known as Mr. Oseghale, who narrated the whole story said it all started early 2023, when her niece gave birth to a baby girl and named her Maya Cesar against Donzo layee’s wish, He claimed to be her biological father and as such the bady should bear his own surname.
The source added that Julie refused to adhere to the wish of Donzo, which she says is completely against her customs and tradition as far as he refused to go and see her people and pay the bribe price according to Esan traditional marriage rites and customs and they were never married. So the baby can never bear his own surname nor his own daughter.
Another reliable source close to the family, corroborating the statement said before and after their daughter delivered the baby girl on the 6th March, 2023, they the family have on several occasions invited Donzo layee to come and do the needful, but he has consistently and vehemently refused for reasons best known to him. Even his family back home in Liberia didn’t care show any concern whatsoever up till now.
He summed up by saying the way it is, he Donzo layee can never lay claim over the baby nor whatever the surname the baby should bear.
The family have however pleaded with the Belgian authority to please help in the protection of their daughter from this randy “hit and run gold digger” Liberian man that has been threatening fire and brime stone to actualize his dream, from doing anything funny to their daughter Cesar Julie
