One person has been reported dead during a bloody clash in Uwheru Community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State between suspected herders and local fishermen, with some said to be receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital following injuries sustained during the fracas.
The incident was said to have occurred around 12 noon of Monday, February 5th, 2024, during which one Ofe Ekevwerho from Uwheru community died due to multiple gunshot wounds he sustained.
One Mr. Roland was also reported to have suffered some serious gunshot injuries during the clash and is among the wounded receiving treatment in the hospitals.
Some residents of Uwheru and Unenurhie communities were reported to have barricaded the East West Road to register their grievances.
While demanding justice for the deceased and the wounded, the villagers are calling on the state and federal governments to intervene in the incessant clashes between the herdsmen and the local residents.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident but couldn’t give details, as police operatives were allegedly denied access to the Uwherun Community.
