Edo State Under-18 male football team is third best in the South-South geopolitical Zone of Nigeria, as the Zonal Football Associations’ Youth Football Tournament ends in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on Tuesday, with Rivers team emerging champions.

The Benin boys managed to continue on the journey of participation in the tournament after the demise of the Edo Football Association Vice Chairman, Kindness Ohiowele, who was the leader of team Edo’s delegation to the South-South Youth Championship in Bayelsa.

Team Edo defeated Bayelsa 5-4 on penalty shootouts after ending the game in a 2-2 stalemate at regulation time.

The third-place match of the South-South Under -18 football tournament between Bayelsa State and Edo State ended dramatically.

Team Edo took the lead in the 13th minute of the game through Omoruyi Endurance only for Bayelsa to come from behind to level up in the 27th minute and took the lead in the 38th minute to make it looked over for Edo until the 76th minute of play when God’stime Alakwe’s beautiful goal brought Edo back into the game, leading to the shootouts which ended in favour of team Edo who converted all their kicks to goals.

Recall that the coach Osayomore Aghahowa managed the Edo Under-18 football team to defeat Cross River 1-0 courtesy of God’stime Alakwe’s 85th-minute goal on Monday in the last group game to qualify for the third-place match against Bayelsa.
