In the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 23 games on Tuesday, Abia Warriors secured a surprising 1-0 away victory against Kano Pillars.
In another match fixture, Akwa United triumphed over Enyimba with a 3-1 win, while Sporting Lagos played to a goalless draw against Doma United.
Daniel Ijeh’s goal 12th minute from full time, helped the Umuahia-based Warriors to secure a 1-0 victory over Sai Masu Gida side, marking their inaugural away win this season. This defeat also marked Kano Pillars’ first loss at home in the current season.
Abia Warriors climbed to the eighth position with 33 points, while Pillars dropped out of the top five. Pillars now sit sixth place with 36 points after experiencing their first back-to-back loss this season. Both teams have played an equal number of games.
Akwa United made a successful comeback at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo with a 3-1 victory over the reigning League Champions, Enyimba.
The Nation reports that David Philip scored an early goal in the sixth minute to put the Promise Keepers ahead. Suleiman Sani doubled the lead in the 50th minute to make it 2-0. Mbaoma Chijioke threatened a late comeback when he fired home from 12 yards in the 73rd minute but Sani again made victory certain with the game’s third goal in the fifth minute of the additional time. It was his second of the game.
Following their victory, Akwa United now sit in 17th place with 24 points from 23 games, while Enyimba holds the fifth position with 39 points.
Doma United extended their winless run to five matches after a goalless draw against Sporting Lagos at home.
The Savannah Tigers have been unable to secure a win in their last three home games against Rivers United, Enugu Rangers, and now the team from Lagos.
