…as Aziegbemin thanks Governor Obaseki, others

Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Edo State chapter, has paid a courtesy call on the state chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Tony Aziegbemin to felicitate with him over his recent safe release from the hands of his abductors.

Speaking on behalf of the association, the Chairman of Orhiomwon Local Government Area, Hon. Newman Ugiagbe, who is also the ALGON chairman, Edo State chapter, expressed gratitude to God for the safe return of Hon. (Dr) Tony Aziegbemin.

In his words, “We the chairmen of the 18 Local Government Council Areas under ALGON are here to felicitate with you, our leader, the party chairman over your safe return after spending days in the hands of your adductors.”
The state ALGON chairman said the news of the abduction of the state party chairman came to them as a huge shock and immediately they started seeking God’s intervention for his safety in their hands and safe release, adding that today, the good Lord that answers prayers has hearkened to their prayers and supplications which resulted to his safe return unhurt.

“You are back to us strong and hearty without any trace of injury. Your kind disposition and rare leadership quality towards everyone brought everyone together on your behalf, and we are happy to identify with you, work under you as a leader, and to join numerous other edolites and residents to felicitate your safe return,” he said.
Hon. Ugiagbe said further that the good Lord that granted him victory by releasing him from the captors shall grant PDP victory in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

Once again, on behalf of members of our great party in our various local government areas, we congratulate you and your households, Ugiagbe said, and used the opportunity to thanked the state governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, security agents including that of the Edo State Security Network, for their tireless efforts during the unfortunate incident and most especially the unwavering support and prayers by Edo people to ensure that the party chairman was released.

Responding, Dr Aziegbemin thanked the council chiefs for their visit and solidarity, and wished them well.
Meanwhile, Dr. Aziegbemin has earlier expressed gratitude to all those who stood by him and his family during the period he was held in captivity by kidnappers, saying the experience made him to appreciate more the bond that binds all Edolites together, irrespective of political, tribal or religious divides.

In a statement issued in his residence in Benin City, and signed by him, Dr Aziegbemi said, “First and foremost, I want to give thanks and glory to God Almighty for bringing me back alive and safe from the kidnappers’ den. Throughout my ordeal, my solace was in the knowledge that God was with me. That knowledge kept my hope and confidence alive.

“I want to use this medium to thank His Excellency Governor Godwin Obaseki whom I was made to understand had sleepless nights throughout the 10 days I was in the den. Special thanks go to the security agencies, political leaders, religious leaders, members of the public and our Royal Fathers for their prayers. “My experience made me to appreciate the cord of love that binds us together as Edolites, irrespective of our political, religious or tribal divides.

“Finally, I will forever as always remain grateful to my lovely wife and family members who stood in the gap with prayers and moral support for each other.

I pray that no one will ever have to go through this horrifying experience. God bless you all.”
