Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ), Edo State, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, has urged President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government to as a matter of urgent importance, set a mercenary in motion to review the fee hike in higher institutions to enable average Nigerian embrace education towards development of the country.

He made this known to journalists recently in Benin City during the award of excellence in his honour by leadership of education advocacy group, Coalition of Youths for Education in Nigeria, for his exemplary leadership which culminated in the positive remodelling of youths mindset for development of the larger society.

In their remarks, the head of mission, Yusuf Hassan and Joseph Chukwudi, public relations officer of the organisation, said they were in Benin City to honour the NUJ chairman for discharging his responsibilities towards human capital and infrastructural developments in the society, especially his dispositions in making education accessible to all irrespective of status, a development that has culminated in crime free society.

They said the organization was established in 2019 and that it is a global organisation with the aims to ensure youths across the African continent achieve educational pursuit to harness their potentials towards societal development.

They noted that Comrade Alenkhe was found worthy of the award gesture.

On his part, the NUJ chairman thanked leaders of the organisation for finding him worthy of the honour.

He said the quest for the youths to be educated had been his benchmark in leadership as a journalist with special interest in crime reporting, and lamented the current hike in tuition fees in institutions of higher learning across the country, arguing that the hike could militate against educational pursuit by the less privileged in the society.

He, however, appealed to President Tinubu to set up a formidable committee to look into the matter with a view to reducing it drastically, especially now the economy of the country has been bastardized.

Comrade Alenkhe, who has been bestowed with plethora of awards, assured the leadership of the organisation of the state media partnership under his watch in order to fulfil its obligations.

High point of the award ceremony was the decoration of the chairman with Ashante traditional dress of Ghana, which symbolises that the number one journalist in the state is appreciated across the continent.
