The Edo State Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism, and Edo State Council for Arts and Culture in collaboration with National Association of Nigerian Theatre Art Practitioners (NANTAP), will next week Wednesday, March 27, 2024, celebrate this year’s World Theatre Day. The World Theatre Day with the theme: Theatre and a Culture of Peace is a day set aside by the International Theatre Institute and the International Community to draw public attention to the need to embrace and appreciate theatrical performances.

Edo State Arts, Culture Tourism Commissioner, Hon. Uyi Oduwa Malaka in a statement at the weekend, said the International Theatre Day aims to create awareness on the importance of theatrical arts, how theatrical performances have played in the area of entertainment and the improvement theatre has made over the years, according to the Media and Publicity Unit of the ministry.

Activities lined up for The World Theatre Day celebration, which include dance, drama, poetry, will take place at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative and Sound Hub on 24, Airport Road, Benin City, on Wednesday, March 27, 2027, at 9am and will attract theatre practitioners and competition by secondary school students in theatrical presentations.
