Faith Dibie from the 300 level Constituency has emerged the first female president of the Mass Communication Students’ Association (MACSA), University of Benin.

She was elected alongside other executives in the recent MACSA election for the 2024 administration.

Dibie polled 283 votes to defeat her rival, Success Iyobor, who got 51 votes.

Similarly, Omosede Daisy Aigbe-Edebor, who ran for office of the Director of Welfare, amassed 180 votes to triumph over her opponent, Princess Ofure, who had 153 votes.

Some other executive positions were unopposed, while aspirants to some positions were not cleared during the screening.

In a brief chat with MACSA Ekehuan Watch reporters, the newly-elected president applauded all students of the association for their support during the exercise and pledged to put their interest first.

“I sincerely thank all MACSANs for their unwavering support and for coming out en masse to vote for me. By God’s grace, and with the support of my fellow executives-elect, we will ensure that all our manifestos are manifested,” Dibie said.

The immediate past Editor-in-Chief of MACSA Ekehuan Watch, Chief Nwabor Goodluck, described the exercise as one of the best elections that MACSANs have ever conducted, despite series of challenges that the Electoral Committee passed through before arriving at the end.

He urged MACSANs “to uphold politics of ideas and development, and shun politics of rancour and acrimony, because the Nigerian society is heading to a state of kakistocracy and we need the youths with right vision and mission to restore things to normalcy”.

“The journey to such restoration starts at this grassroots level of politicking. If we don’t get it right here, we won’t get it right there,” he said.

While congratulating her former colleague who emerged the winner in the recent exercise, Success Iyobor promised to be supportive to the association and department. She equally eulogized her disciples who supported her till the end of the race.

Other members of the newly elected MACSA UNIBEN executives include Success Osejele Inegbedion (Secretary General), Lexy Oyeima Idemudia (Vice President), Osifo Nehikhare James (Director of Socials), Omorodion Iyen Esther (Financial Secretary), Iwuoha Chidimma Justina (Treasurer), and Aikharialea Joy Omoseme Adesuwa (PRO 2).

As at the time of filing this report, the offices of the Public Relations Officer 1 and Director of Sports remained vacant pending when bye-elections will be conducted.
