In a recent development, Mason Greenwood has reportedly voiced his desire for the Spanish Football Association (RFEF) to drop the investigation into an alleged incident involving Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham.
The incident, purportedly occurring during Real Madrid’s match against Getafe last month, sparked controversy after Getafe filed a complaint with La Liga, subsequently referred to the RFEF.
According to reports, Bellingham allegedly directed insults towards Greenwood during the match, prompting speculation and media attention. However, neither the player nor their respective clubs have publicly addressed the matter.
The RFEF had appointed a judge to investigate the complaint, with a decision expected within two weeks. Despite this, no judgment has been announced thus far.
Greenwood’s request for dropping the case comes amid his loan spell at Getafe from Manchester United. The 22-year-old’s tenure at Old Trafford was marred by legal issues, including charges of attempted rape, coercive behaviour, and assault. These charges were later discontinued due to various factors, as stated by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
With Manchester United changing ownership, including the involvement of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS company, the club faces decisions regarding Greenwood’s future. Ratcliffe emphasized the importance of evaluating facts over hype and making decisions aligned with the club’s values.
