The Chairman of Edo State Sports Commission Olympian Yusuf Alli, has reiterated the state government’s commitment towards making Edo Queens Football Club one of the best in the continent.
Addressing the players at the training session on Tuesday, the former Team Nigeria Captain, charged the entire club to remain focused, by reigniting the winning mentality that Edo Queens is known for.
Yusuf expressed confidence in the ability of the girls to make it to NWFL Super 6, adding that they are still very much in contention for the Super 6 ticket not minding their present position on the log.
“I’m very happy to be in your training ground this morning. I told your coach that I will come and watch you girls, now am here. I must tell you that we are not happy with the way we are going, we must as a matter of fact redirect our attention and be focussed.
“We must reignite that winning mentality that we are known for. We have just five games to go, right, we want to see ourselves swimming in victory.
“I don’t believe in past victories, people want to rate you with your current performance. So we must do something to show that we are potential NWFL champions,” Yusuf said.
“I commend you all for your resilience and determination in the past, but I want to say that all is not over yet, there is a lot to play for, we are still in top contention for the Super 6, we want to go to continental, the management is confident that you have all it takes to represent Nigeria at the continental level. So we must not give up.
“I’m elated to inform you that the governor is totally committed to ensuring that Edo State regain her premier position in Nigerian Sports. The government is doing so much, so the only way to reciprocate his kind gesture is to win laurels for him. So I charge you all to approach your five remaining games with confidence and resolve,” he said.
Yusuf further expressed, “Again, feel free to approach your coaches whenever you have any issue troubling your mind, the management is totally committed to your welfare, we do everything to ensure that you are living comfortably well. The government pay your match bonuses, allowances, monthly salaries as at when due. As players, you must do your part to make your teeming fans happy.
“As I take my leave, I want to say that henceforth, your away winning bonuses will be doubled, and the money will be paid me, Yusuf Alli.
“So go out there and make yourselves proud, make Edo State Government proud and your family proud,” he stressed.
