The National body of Obedient Movement has passed a vote of no confidence on the primary election process of the Edo Labour Party (LP) that produced Olumide Akpata (SAN) as the party candidate in the forthcoming September 21st Edo gubernatorial election.

Recalled the immediate past president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olumide Akpata (SAN) was declared the winner of the LP primary election by the Electoral Committee having scored the highest number of votes.

Addressing journalists at a press conference in Benin City, the National Coordinator of the Movement, Comrade Felix Ikhuenbor, a.ka. Mr. Figo said the decision to pass a vote of no confidence on the election is based on some compromised leaders at the National level, Edo State Working Committee, LGAs and Wards Executive due to the unpatriotic activities they engaged in, before, during and after the Edo State LP primary election.

According to Mr. Figo, “LP which supposed to provide alternative platform has become the worst and conducted the worst primary election in Edo State.

“We witnessed a situation where some compromised party executives at the national, state, LGAs and wards openly and shamelessly traded the party ticket to the highest bidder, thereby denying people with marketable credentials that could favourably compete with other party candidates.

“There was clear woeful dollarization of the party primary as an aspirant with the highest volume of dollars, rained on some compromised national, state, LGAs and ward executives with their manipulated delegates got the party ticket. It must be clear that this unholy action is anti-Obedient movement and against what H.E. Peter Obi is known and stand for, therefore, must be rejected totally.

“We cannot fold our hands and allow our dear state to be further mortgaged to evil elements. Those who sell party ticket, if not Agberos’ style should have examined the buyers to know that they do not have footprints in Edo State before coming into the party and no support from them during the presidential election when the party was without structure, knowing fully well that the candidacy of Mr. Peter Obi was for the masses and national rescue.

“In a bid to make quick and unholy wealth, LP totally disregarded competence, credibility, integrity and antecedents of aspirants and sold their birthright like Esau by going after their temporary table food and survival.”

While assuring Mr. Peter Obi of their continuous support for him, the National Coordinator of the Movement, Comrade Felix Ikhuenbor advised the LP 2023 Presidential Candidate to provide leadership in the Labour Party and do a thorough review of the party leadership and purge them of all contaminating symptoms ahead of 2027.
