The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the release of the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, who was abducted about a 11 days ago in Benin City.

Spokesman for the Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, disclosed that “the state police Command is aware of all that have been happening, we are waiting for the political party he belongs to issue official statement about his release”.

Though it could not be ascertained when, how and what condition he was let off the hook, a dependable source revealed the Edo PDP Chair reunited with his family about 3am on Tuesday, 26th of March 2024.

When journalists visited his residence, Dr. Aziegbemi was said to be resting even as some of his political associates thronged the premises.

It will be recalled that Dr. Tony Aziegbemi was reportedly waylaid close to his private residence at Odaro Street, Off Country Home Road, Sapele Road, Benin City, at about 11:45pm on Friday, March 15, 2024.

The information of his kidnap was received from his driver, one Joseph Impete, who reported the incident at the New Etete Division, Benin City.

The kidnappers were said to have operated in two Toyota Corolla cars.

Confirming the incident then, Nwabuzor had said “the Commissioner of Police has given marching orders to the tactical teams of the operatives to go after the hoodlums and we pray that by the grace of God all hands are on deck and we will be able to rescue him unhurt”.
