… as Elo Jackson pledges to partner Edo govt to revive Ogbe Hard Court

The Elo Jackson International Veteran Tennis Tournament South-South edition sponsored by the vice chairman of the Edo State Tennis Association, Dr. Elo Jackson, which promises to be fun-filled holds this weekend at the tennis arena of the remodeled Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Bein City, the Edo State capital.

The first edition of the South-South Veteran Tennis Tournament tagged: “Elo Jackson International Veteran Tennis Tournament” for veteran tennis players in the South-South being organized by Elo Jackson International in collaboration with the Edo State Tennis Association, is scheduled to be held in Benin City on Friday, March 15 through Sunday, March 17.

The tournament’s Local Organising Committee (LOC) Secretary, Engr. Emmanuel Ujadughele in a statement on Monday said the event is open to all veterans in the South-South Region of Nigeria who are from 50 years and above.

He explained that the veteran tennis tournament is designed to create platforms for physical exercise, fun, rejuvenation, and networking among tennis players.

According to Engr. Emmanuel, the tournament is in two categories; men’s singles open to 50-55-year-old veterans, and men’s doubles for 56 year-old and above.

The LOC Secretary noted that there would be cash prizes for winners in the two categories and medals for all participants.

Meanwhile, the vice chairman of the Edo State Tennis Association, Dr. Elo Jackson, has vowed to partner with the Edo State Government to bring back Ogbe Hard Court tennis classics in Benin City soonest.

He stated that the actualization of the dream of bringing back the Ogbe Hard Court is possible with the backing of the Peoples Democratic Party’s flag bearer in the 2024 Edo Gubernatorial Elections Dr. Asue Ighodalo who is expected to attend the occasion as the special guest of honour at the veteran tennis tournament.

“Dr. Asue Ighodalo has assured us that his enthusiasm and love for sports has been extended to Tennis and other sports. Through him, our vision and plans to bring back Ogbe Hard Court and talents hunt programmes in tennis can be actualized and we are proud to have him as the pillar of support,” Dr. Jackson said.
