…trains health workers on integrated management of acute malnutrition

In an effort to combat acute malnutrition among children, the Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (EDSPHCDA) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, initiated a five-day certificate training of Nutrition Focal Person’s and Officers in Charge (OICs) on Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM).

The comprehensive training of Nutrition Focal Person’s and Officers in Charge in ten revamped Government Clinics was held on April 15 through April 19, at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA) in Benin City.

While addressing the participants during the training, Dr. Omosigho Izedonmwen, the Executive Secretary, EDSPHCDA, highlighted the urgency of equipping health workers with the necessary skills to address malnutrition, particularly among vulnerable groups like children and emphasized prompt referral for severe cases of malnutrition for proper management.

The training involved plenary discussion on clinical practices at PHC and IDP, clinical demonstrations on IMAM, as well as a trip to New Benin and Ugbekun Government Clinics during their immunization days to help health workers identify children with Malnutrition.
