He first equalized from the penalty spot in the 61st minute following a foul on Harry Maguire, who had earlier scored United’s opening goal.
Fernandes then unleashed a stunning left-footed strike to put United ahead before assisting Rasmus Hojlund to finally overcome their resilient opponents.
While the victory propelled United to the sixth place, their performance left much to be desired under Ten Hag’s management, despite remaining in contention for European qualification.
For Sheffield United, sitting at the bottom of the table with just 16 points from 34 matches, relegation seems imminent, with their fate possibly sealed in the coming weekend.
