Former Super Eagles head coach, Samson Siasia has condemned the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for what he describes as a lack of support during his ordeal with FIFA’s match-fixing investigation.

Siasia, who faced a life ban from football-related activities, alleges that the NFF failed to adequately assist him, leaving him to navigate the complex legal process alone.

Siasia, 56, revealed his frustration during a recent interview with Athlist, shedding light on the turbulent period that ensued after FIFA implicated him in bribery and match-fixing allegations.

Notwithstanding FIFA ultimately reducing his ban to five years upon appeal, Siasia remains adamant about the NFF’s negligence during his time of need.

The former coach recounted his bafflement upon learning of FIFA’s investigation, claiming that the NFF was informed but failed to notify him promptly. Without the necessary support, Siasia expressed difficulty in mounting a defence, highlighting the challenges of finding legal representation within a short timeframe.

Moreover, Siasia criticised FIFA’s handling of the situation, questioning their decision to allow individuals associated with match-fixing to remain involved in FIFA tournaments.

He emphasised the lack of concrete evidence against him and lamented the consequences of the accusations on his career and reputation.

Siasia’s grievances extend to the aftermath of the appeal process, where he continues to grapple with legal complications and financial burdens. He disclosed the ongoing legal battle with a sports lawyer over fees, underscoring the enduring repercussions of the ordeal.

He urged Nigerian football authorities to be proactive in safeguarding the rights of individuals facing similar challenges, calling for greater accountability and support mechanisms within the footballing community.
