Nigerian athlete, Favour Ofili has secured her spot in the women’s 200m event at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Her qualification followed a remarkable win at the Tom Jones Memorial Classic held at the James G. Pressly Stadium in Gainesville, Florida. Demonstrating remarkable determination from the starting blocks, Ofili dashed through the track, recording an impressive time of 22.33 seconds (+1.4 m/s).

This not only marks her personal best in two years but also exceeds the qualifying standard for the Paris 2024 Olympics, set at 22.57 seconds. Despite facing stiff competition, Ofili emerged triumphant, outpacing formidable opponents such as Anavia Battle from the USA and Denmark’s Ida Karstoft.

Ofili’s remarkable display secures her position as the seventh Nigerian athlete to earn automatic qualification for the upcoming Olympics, joining the ranks of Tobi Amusan, Edose Ibadin, Ruth Usoro, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, Favour Ashe, and Ezekiel Nathaniel.
