Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has appealed to His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu, spiritual leader of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star to help pray for the liberation of the state from occultic and other evil forces that may have held it down from progress.
He spoke last Sunday at the UJ Esuene Stadium Calabar in his goodwill message to the spiritual organisation when they marked the Easter celebration with a programme called Divine Assurance of Christhood.
Represented by the commissioner for local government affairs, Chief Victor Felix Idem, Otu said, “We are particularly saddened that His Holiness Olumba Olumba is a revered and respected spiritual leader that has drawn global traffic of worshippers to the state. The state government is very happy with your contributions and the religious tourism.
“We appeal to you to pray for the liberation of the state from any forces, occultic or satanic that may be impacting the state.”
Also speaking, two paramount rulers of Efut Nation in Calabar South Local Government Area as well as that of Yakurr Local Government Area and Obol Lopon of Ugep, Professor Itam Hogan, and Ubana Ofem Eteng, respectively, also called on the spiritual leader for serious prayers for the country and state.
They commended the spiritual leader for being the highest private employer of labour in the state.
The senator who represented Bayelsa East Senatorial District and former deputy governor-elect in the Bayelsa State, B.W. Degi, said the organisation has used its unique teachings to impact thousands of her adherents, Nigerians and other nationals.
Degi, who is Secretary General of the organisation, said the celebration of the Divine Assurance will bring about positive developments in the country.
Addressing the faithfuls and guests, the spiritual leader said God has intervened in the course of human history, adding that peace and progress are the lots of the country.
He charged all nations to abide by the precepts of peace and forgiveness, saying the aim of the celebration was to elevate all that practise the ideals of the Christ into Christhood.
He emphasised on need for love, saying it is the hallmark of all governments for their citizens as leaders shall be accountable.
