A retired captain of the Nigerian Army and a chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Elder Peter Otamere Eguavoen, has urged the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, to urgently revisit law regulating tricycle operations in the state.

Eguavoen, who narrated his experience in the hands of one of the Keke-Napep (tricycle) drivers in the Benin City, said if urgent steps are not taken to address the unwholesome attitude of these drivers in Benin metropolis, the situation would continue to get worse.

“One instance happened to me when I engaged a Keke driver from Cook Road to my house at Upper Lawani Road to collect my phone that I forgot at home. I told the Keke driver to wait for me, and before I could come back, the driver left with my bag containing my valuable items, including my handset (phone),” Elder Eguavoen narrated.

“For over weeks now, I reported the matter in Keke-Napep park at Edokpolor/Federal Road and up till now, I’m unable to recover my property. I also went as far as Iyaro/Obakhavbaye park of Keke-Napep, and no good result has come out of my report,” he said.

He urged government to regulate the activities of the Keke drivers by ensuring that all the Keke-Napep have number plates.

“And I also noticed that those who have plate number will shade them or have only one plate number at the back or front to avoid arrest or check.

“It would be of good to Edo State people if the state government mandates members of PUWOV or sets up a task force to check their activities,” he said.
