…as grand finale of Campus Models Carnival holds in Benin

It was a blend of beauty, style, fashion, glitz and glamour as the grand finale of the Campus Models Carnival 2024 and Student Awards Night got underway late in the evening of Sunday, April 21, 2024 at the ever-busy Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub on Airport Road, Benin City, Edo State capital.

The hub, which has become popular for hosting big events, including Edo-born singer Shallipopi’s first-ever homecoming concert in December of 2023, came alive on Sunday as established and upcoming players in the fashion and modelling industry converged to witness the occasion.

The hall was packed full, the ambiance cool, the atmosphere chatty and friendly amid red evening atmospheric light and music.

The event began with a soul soothing musical orchestration by a performing artist after which the hosts, Monique the Vibe and Chibbi, took the stage.

After the introduction of sponsors, guests and judges, the CEO of Campus Models Worldwide, Divine Johnson, and Miss Geraldine welcomed guests to the grand finale of the Campus Models Carnival where the final judgement and winner would be announced.

Models/contestants gave brief spoken word performances where they dwelt on the strength of a woman, followed by dance performances from the contestants and performing artists.

There also was a question and answer segment immediately after, where matters arising from the pageantry were addressed and other issues. The atmosphere was calmed with a soothing musical rendition by Glory and Albert.

Contestants who were nine in number were also made to display their prowess in modelling, displaying so many performances as well as a general dance from the contestants where they displayed the variety of rich Nigerian cultures and tribes such as Igbo, Efik, Fulani, Sango, Gbagyi, Hausa, Edo and Yoruba.

Students awards were presented to students in different categories, including Best Graphic Designer, Makeup Artist of the Year, Most Brilliant Student of the Year (Inegbedion Glory Itohan), CEO of the Year (Adesuwa Fesomade), Student Photographer of the Year (Micah Gift), Student Dj of the Year (Deejayurch), Student Dancer of the Year (Vanilla official), Student MC/Compere of the Year (MC Lord Fortune), Vest Writer/Blogger of the Year (Alabi Jeremiah), Most Political Student, Student Food and Cake Brand (El Cuisine Cakes), and Student Female Model of the Year.

Awards were also presented to the Nigerian Observer as well.

Thereafter, a Lush Hair catwalk presentation was done by contestants, and another discussion segment with the audience by two anchors took place afterwards.

After a couple of displays from performing artists, contestants came up for a catwalk session in their dinner outfits where the top 5 were chosen to move into the final round.

Making it to the top 5 were Miss AAU, Miss Delta, Miss OAU, Miss Otuoke, Miss IB Poly, and an addition of Miss Unijos, making it a top six.

Consolation prizes were also given to the remaining three who could not make it to the final.

The performing artist, Qing Madi, shook the crowd as she hit the stage with a beautiful performance.

Thereafter, the winners of the Most Beautiful Campus Queen pageantry were announced as Queen Oreva did the honours of crowning the new queens – 4th runner-up (Miss AAU) as Miss Photogenic; 3rd runner-up (Miss IB Poly) as Miss Personality; 2nd runner-up (Miss Delsu) as Miss Influential; 1st runner-up (Miss OAU), and the winner as Miss Otuoke.

The pageant was judged by Odhomor, Iwuchukwu, Tajeruo Faith, and Amen Ruth.
