…20%-28% raise for pensioners on Defined Benefits Scheme

Amid clamour by labour unions in the country for an upward review of the national minimum wage, the Federal Government on Tuesday announced it has approved 25 per cent and 35 per cent salary increase for civil servants across various consolidated salary structures.

The Head of Press, National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, Emmanuel Njoku, disclosed this in a statement, saying the increase would take effect on January 1.

The announcement is coming just as workers in Nigeria mark Workers’ Day amid rising inflation and biting fuel scarcity in many parts of the country.

“The Federal Government has approved an increase of between 25 per cent and 35 per cent in salary increase for Civil Servants on the remaining six Consolidated Salary Structures,” Njoku said in the statement.

”They include Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS) and Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS).

“Others are: Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS) and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).
