Simone Inzaghi, the manager who guided Inter Milan to the Italian title, has been named Serie A Coach of the Season, as announced by the Italian League on Friday.

At 48 years old, Inzaghi took over from Luciano Spalletti, who received the accolade while leading Napoli last season.

According to the League, Inzaghi was selected by a panel of sports publication directors, although specific voting numbers were not disclosed.

“It could only be Simone Inzaghi.

“Inter have both the best attack and best defence and also went on a 28-game unbeaten run,” said the statement, adding that “Inzhagi has had his players continuously play an exciting brand of football while maintaining compactness and solidity,” Lega Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo said in a statement.

The award will be presented before Inter’s final match of the season at Verona.

Heading into Sunday’s last round, Inter has a 19-point lead over second-placed AC Milan.

Since taking charge of Inter in 2021, Inzaghi has led the team to three Italian Supercups, two Italian Cups, and last season’s Champions League final.

Although Inter were eliminated in the round of 16 in both the Champions League and Italian Cup this season, they dominated Serie A with 29 wins, six draws, and only two losses.

On Wednesday, Inter’s ownership changed hands, with the US fund Oaktree taking over from the Chinese group Suning, which could not repay a debt worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Oaktree announced on Friday that it now controls 99.6 percent of the club’s capital.

Inter fans also learned on Friday that season ticket prices for matches at the San Siro next season will increase by 12 to 23 percent – a decision made prior to Oaktree’s takeover.
